Emma Elena Ward, (nee-McCarty), 89, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at home.
She was born December 11, 1926 in Stringer, Mississippi to the late Jeffrey F. and Emma D. McCarty.
Elena lived most of her life in Cleveland, Ohio. She enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteering at the West Side Community Center.
She is survived by her children, Jerry L. Ward (Rita), David Ward, Mary Sue Schlabach (Orris), and Jeanne Lisa Roldan (Angelo); many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Elena is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ward; children, Darlene Filidoro, Howard Ward, Martha Clayton, Edward Ward and Thomas Ward and grandsons, Angelo Roldan, Jr. and Joseph Filidoro.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 8, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M..at the Bodnar-Mahoney Funeral Home, 3929 Lorain, Ave. Cleveland, OH 44113.

Grandma Ward was always so sweet and inviting to me anytime I was in or out of town. I think tommorow I will be making her goulash for dinner. Was always so comforting to me. Sorry that I am in AZ and unable to attend services.

I have fond memories of your mom when I was very young.. not sure of age… old enough to have to help watch some of you children.. I remember helping your mom to gather up her stuff..I loved being around Aunt Elena… she was a Hoot as you all know..and had to be a strong woman.. and as she said… she had the most beautiful legs… I try to imitate her on that..been working them out to help them look better … ahahh I do wish I would have been able to get up there to visit with her and everyone… just kept finding reasons why I had to wait… and waited too late..I am sorry and know you all will miss Mom… I know I miss mine…I love you all..

I haven’t seen you since I was a baby, Grandma, but I always carried you in my heart…. Guess I just have to wait a little bit longer til I can finally see you and my dad again… Til then, rest in peace sweet woman
